Three people with blunt trauma injuries were found dead in Hanno, Saitama Prefecture on Sunday with police investigating the case as murder.
The police received several calls at around 7:10 a.m. reporting people arguing at a house. There was also an emergency call around 7:25 a.m. reporting a fire at the same location.
The fire was put out after burning part of the property, but the police found the bodies of a man and two women who suffered blunt trauma injuries to their heads and necks at the premises.
The house belongs to a couple in their 60s and their daughter, according to the police.
A witness told the police that a man wearing dark-colored clothing holding an object resembling a hammer fled the scene.
One of the residents said people in the area were told by the police to stay home and lock their doors and windows.
