Tokyo, 20 October, /AJMEDIA/

A delegation led by Special Representative of the President of Azerbaijan in the liberated territories of the Karabakh Economic Region (except Shusha district) Emin Huseynov has today visited Japan’s city of Hiroshima to attend the 10th General Conference of Mayors for Peace, the initiative, which brings together over 8,000 cities from 166 countries.

During the meeting with Hiroshima City Mayor Kazumi Matsui, Emin Huseynov provided an insight into the history and culture of Aghdam district, the acts of vandalism committed on Azerbaijani lands during the 30-year-long occupation, Azerbaijan’s brilliant victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, as well as the large-scale reconstruction and restoration work carried out in the liberated territories.

The sides also discussed the issues of developing bilateral relations between Aghdam and Hiroshima cities.

During the conference, the Special Representative discussed issues of development of bilateral relations with a number of member cities’ mayors.

The participants then paid tribute to the victims of Hiroshima atomic bombing and laid a wreath and flowers at the Hiroshima Peace Memorial.

The Lonely Planet magazine labeled Aghdam as the Hiroshima of the Caucasus in 2008.
