In the 44-day Patriotic War that took place in the fall of 2020, the true commander-in-chief and diplomatic skills, iron will and the glorious victory of the Azerbaijani Army of the Victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev forced Armenia to capitulate and vacate the territories.
According to the joint statement signed by the President of Azerbaijan, the President of Russia and the Prime Minister of Armenia on November 10 of that year, on November 20, 2020, the occupied territory of Aghdam region was evacuated by the Armenian army. The Azerbaijani Army entered the occupied part of Aghdam region without any losses, martyrs or bloodshed. After 27 years, the tricolor flag of Azerbaijan flew again in Agdam city.
Today, we celebrate the third year of the liberation of Aghdam from occupation with great joy and pride. The region, which was liberated by the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev without firing a shot, has now become a new symbol of development and construction.
On July 23, 1993, Armenian separatists, who occupied the city of Aghdam and a large part of the region, carried out unprecedented vandalism in the area and destroyed all settlements. For 27 years, Armenians looted, destroyed and burned residential houses, public buildings, schools, kindergartens, hospitals, and industrial enterprises in the city of Agdam and in the villages of the region. Cemeteries, historical and cultural monuments were subjected to Armenian vandalism. Aghdam, once one of the most beautiful cities in Azerbaijan, reminded of the ruins that turned into ruins when it was freed from occupation. Foreign journalists who visited Aghdam called it the Hiroshima of the Caucasus.
Armenians destroyed historical monuments, cemeteries, residential facilities, hospitals, libraries, schools, offices and institutions in the occupied territories of Aghdam. 128,000 people were displaced from their native homes, the economy of Azerbaijan was damaged by more than 3 billion manats. Before the occupation, Agdam had 1898 socio-economic construction objects, 17 industries, 31 constructions, 753 trades, 397 public catering, 220 household enterprises, 480 social buildings, 24 thousand 446 residential buildings, as well as 54 preschools, 116 general education institutions, several universities. branch, 13 cultural houses, museums, 109 cultural clubs were operating.
Aghdam was also the district where the most street battles took place during the Karabakh battles. Aghdam is the home of more than 6 thousand martyrs in the First Karabakh War. Aghdam was always intimidated by the enemy.
In all commemorative ceremonies organized in the past 30 years, we had one wish – to liberate our lands, let the days of occupation become history, let us celebrate only our days of victory with great solemnity. And that day came. Today, for the people of Agdam, July 23 is not the date of the invasion, but November 20 is the Victory Day.
Aghdam, which was recaptured by the enemy without firing a single shot with the diplomatic skills of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, has now become the main square of reconstruction.
Three years ago, in his address to the people on November 20, Ilham Aliyev stated that a new era had begun for Agdam and that the restoration of the region would occupy a special place in future plans: “We will also restore the city of Agdam. A master plan will be prepared, specialists will be involved, infrastructure projects will be implemented in a planned manner, buildings, social facilities, roads and other necessary works will be done. Citizens will be helped by the state to return there. Therefore, the restoration of Agdam region will occupy a special place in our future plans. Because it is a large region in terms of territory, and at the same time, as I said, the most populous in terms of population It is a big district”.
As in our other territories freed from occupation as a result of the glorious victory, life is reviving in Aghdama. Having regained its freedom, this city becomes a witness of great construction, repair and restoration works. Aghdam, which was once one of the most developed and prosperous cities not only of Karabakh, but also of our republic, is currently experiencing a huge construction boom.
According to the master plan, the area of Agdam city will be 1,750 hectares, and suburban gardens will be 2,450 hectares. Smart and sustainable social infrastructure will be created here. Both private houses and high-rise residential buildings will be built in Agdam city. 30 percent of the population will live in private houses. High-rise buildings will cover 30 percent of the territory of Agdam city and 70 percent of the population.
Today, Aghdam is really turning into a paradise. The strategic importance of Aghdam, as well as its bitter landscape, made it necessary to start the construction works from here. For this reason, the first city whose master plan was approved was Aghdam.
A new breath has come to the city, which was looted and destroyed by the enemy for nearly 30 years. When we set foot on our liberated lands, we are not faced with the heavy consequences and pains of the occupation, but with beauties and happy smiles on the faces of people who have returned to their native lands.
There is no freed territory in which one or another form of development work is not carried out. Construction of 15 road and transport infrastructures and other communication lines in the liberated territories, construction and commissioning of Fuzuli and Zangilan international airports in a short period of time, continuation of the construction of the airport in Lachin, commissioning of electric substations, construction of water lines, start of reconstruction of residential areas, Zangezur corridor We would not be wrong if we say that the projects implemented in the direction of opening are unprecedented construction works.
Finally, let us emphasize that after the reconstruction, Agdam will be the largest city of Karabakh. Aghdam, where past and future, antiquity and modernity will be combined, will also become the 4th largest settlement in Azerbaijan.
