Azerbaijan and China explore prospects for cooperation in mandatory health insurance

Zaur Aliyev, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance, has met with a delegation led by Chinese Ambassador to Azerbaijan Lu Mei.

The meeting focused on the strategic partnership between the two countries and opportunities for cooperation in the field of mandatory health insurance.

Zaur Aliyev highlighted the implementation of mandatory health insurance in Azerbaijan, the expansion of access to medical services for the population, and the agency’s key priority areas. He also recalled China’s support during the COVID-19 pandemic, including the deployment of a medical expert group and the provision of vaccines to Azerbaijan.

Ambassador Lu Mei noted China’s interest in sharing knowledge and experience with Azerbaijan in areas such as the digitalization of the healthcare system, health insurance management approaches, and financing models for healthcare facilities.

She emphasized that the work of China’s National Healthcare Security Administration aligns closely with that of Azerbaijan’s State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance, and suggested that an Azerbaijani delegation visit China to gain more detailed insights in this field.

The parties also discussed enhancing cooperation between Azerbaijan’s State Agency on Mandatory Health Insurance and China’s National Healthcare Security Administration, including organizing joint training programs to build the capacity of medical personnel and exploring collaboration under China’s technical assistance programs.
