Azerbaijani artist Aida Mahmudova participated in the “3daysofdesign” festival in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark.
According to YARAT, the “3daysofdesign” festival serves as a platform for renowned and emerging artist-designers from around the world. At the festival, Aida Mahmudova successfully presented her “Elysium” series of carpets and “Nameless” series of sculptural lamps at an exhibition held at the Kongernes Lapidarium museum, one of Copenhagen’s cultural centers.
The “Elysium” series of carpets, created in three different weaving workshops in Azerbaijan, combines centuries-old artisanal traditions with innovative sculptural elements. These works reflect Aida Mahmudova’s deep interest in textile heritage and her creative approach. Through her experiments with multi-layered and three-dimensional forms, she expands the creative possibilities of textile-based art. This artistic approach presents the carpet not just as a surface but as an independent sculptural work that interacts with space and is loaded with deep meanings.
The sculptural lamps from the “Nameless” series explore themes of memory and space through ceramic, glass, and stone materials. These art pieces were created as a result of close collaboration between Aida Mahmudova and Spain’s Worn Studio. Inspired by historically used vertical stacked columnar stone objects, such as ritual or directional markers, the artist reinterprets these forms as personal memory monuments. With this series, the artist offers visitors an emotional experience where traditions meet modernity, and Azerbaijani identity is celebrated through the language of art and design.
