Tokyo, 28 June, /AJMEDIA/

As part of his visit to China for the Meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Member States’ Energy Ministers, Azerbaijan’s Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov met with Wang Hongzhi, head of the National Energy Administration of China.

During the meeting, both sides emphasized that the development of energy cooperation is a key priority within the comprehensive strategic partnership between Azerbaijan and China.

It was noted that the Joint Statement signed during President Ilham Aliyev’s state visit to China reflects both countries’ commitment to promoting the energy transition and expanding active cooperation in the renewable energy sector. The agreements signed with Chinese companies during that visit on multifaceted cooperation in renewables are now being successfully implemented. Within the framework of the SCO event, agreements with China Datang Overseas Investment Co. Ltd and the China Electric Power Planning and Engineering Institute (EPPEI) were highlighted as significant contributions to the “green energy” partnership.

In addition to renewable energy projects, the sides also exchanged views on the prospects of Chinese companies participating in Azerbaijan’s oil and gas projects, as well as the importance of developing interregional “green energy corridors” within the Belt and Road Initiative.

Wang Hongzhi expressed support for strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan in all areas of green energy.

The head of the National Energy Administration was invited to visit Azerbaijan.
