German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is scheduled to visit Japan this week for talks with Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, the Japanese government said.
Japan hopes Steinmeier’s three-day visit from Tuesday will enhance bilateral relations, especially ahead of Tokyo taking over the Group of Seven presidency from Berlin next year.
Steinmeier and his wife plan to meet with Emperor Naruhito and Empress Masako, according to the Foreign Ministry.
After visiting Tokyo and Kyoto, the German president is scheduled to travel to South Korea for talks with President Yoon Suk Yeol, according to the German president’s office.
