Memorial erected at crash site of AZAL aircraft near Aktau

Tokyo, 24 May, /AJMEDIA/

A memorial has been erected at the site near Aktau where an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) aircraft crashed.

The memorial features a fenced metal structure enclosing the area where the aircraft debris remains, and is complemented by benches and flowers.

The Akim of Tupkaragan District told local media that the memorial was established at the initiative of residents of the Mangystau region. “They decided to honor the memory of the victims using their own funds. No budget resources were used,” he said.

The AZAL passenger aircraft, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near the city of Aktau, Kazakhstan, on December 25 last year. Of the 67 people on board, 38 lost their lives, and 29 survived.
