North Korea appears to have failed in a bid to launch an unidentified projectile, South Korea’s military said Wednesday.

“North Korea fired an unidentified projectile from the Sunan area around 9:30 a.m., but it seems to have failed immediately,” South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

A Japanese defense official also said North Korea fired what appeared to be a ballistic missile on Wednesday.

North Korea has conducted a series of missile launches this year, including those recently found to have included tests of a new intercontinental ballistic missile system.
