Today is the third anniversary of the Victory Parade, which is the celebration of Azerbaijan’s historic victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, and which once again demonstrated the strength and power of the Azerbaijani Army to the world.
We have witnessed the military parades of the Azerbaijani Army before. However, the parade held three years ago differs from other parades due to its importance and value. If the previous parades were a demonstration of the strength of our Army, the Victory Parade was a declaration to the whole world of the strength of our Army, which liberated our lands from the enemy by successfully fulfilling its assigned mission, as well as the unity of our people and the love of the Motherland.
We would like to remind you of the words of our head of state Ilham Aliyev at the military parade on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the Azerbaijan Armed Forces in 2018: “In the April battles of 2016, in the Nakhchivan operation of 2018, the flag of Azerbaijan was raised on the lands liberated from invaders. It has a great moral significance. These flags led our soldiers forward. These flags are the flags in battle. Today, these flags fly in the liberated lands of Azerbaijan and were brought here for this parade. The day will come and the occupied lands will be raised there after liberation. The Azerbaijani flag will be brought to Azadlig Square and displayed in the military parade. We must bring this holy day closer and we are bringing it closer.”
The words of the head of state soon became true, the flag raised in our Karabakh liberated from occupation by our victorious army was waved in the Victory Parade.
Armenian military equipment seized as military booty during the Patriotic War was clearly displayed to the victorious Azerbaijani people, their friends and enemies in the Victory Parade. Undoubtedly, this parade gave confidence, pride to the friend and sadness to the enemy. This Victory Parade was also a message to the world: every country will sooner or later restore its territorial integrity, and artificially frozen conflicts will one day flare up and end with the victory of the right side.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s participation in the Victory Parade once again demonstrated Azerbaijan-Turkey friendship and brotherhood to the world. It was a historic moment when the presidents of the two countries participated in the victory parade together, the defense minister gave a report to the heads of both countries, and the presidents of the two countries greeted the Victorious Army together.
It should be noted that more than 3,000 personnel, up to 150 pieces of military equipment, including newly adopted modern military equipment, missile and artillery installations, air defense systems, as well as military ships and boats were displayed at the parade. In the parade, some of the spoils captured by the Azerbaijani Army from the defeated enemy during the Patriotic War were also displayed.
President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev spoke at the parade and said that today is a historic day:
“Azerbaijan won a brilliant victory in 44 days and defeated Armenia and put an end to the occupation. Every day of these 44 days is our glorious history. Every day the Azerbaijani Army advanced, every day new cities, villages, towns, and heights were liberated. The Azerbaijani soldier, the Azerbaijani officer fought with one action to end this occupation, to end this injustice, to let justice prevail, to let historical justice prevail, and we achieved it.”
Saying that many parades have been held on Azadlig Square, the head of state emphasized the special importance of the Victory Parade: “This is the Victory Parade. This is a historical event. In one of the parades, I said that the flag raised on the height of Lalatape in 2016 will be brought to the parade. I said that the day will come when the Azerbaijani flag raised in the lands liberated from occupation will be brought to Azadlig Square, and today it has come. We, the people of Azerbaijan, are the witnesses of this historic day. From now on, we will only move forward.”
