World Azerbaijanis Solidarity and Unity Day – December 31

Tokyo, 31 December, /AJMEDIA/

December 31 is celebrated annually by Azerbaijanis living on Earth as World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day. This holiday plays an important role in creating bonds of solidarity between Azerbaijanis living in different countries of the world.

Of course, unity and solidarity have always been observed among Azerbaijanis. The celebration of this holiday has now become a necessity and a spiritual need for all Azerbaijanis of the world.

The foundation of World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day was laid in late December 1989, during the collapse of the borders (USSR-Iranian borders) in Nakhchivan. The border posts between North and South Azerbaijan were destroyed. At that time, a conference of Turkic-speaking peoples was being held in Istanbul. The conference also decided to celebrate the solidarity of world Azerbaijanis. On December 16, 1991, the national leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, who was then the Chairman of the Supreme Assembly of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, considering the importance of creating unity among world Azerbaijanis, declared December 31 as the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis. Thus, December 31, which is dear to all Azerbaijanis, is celebrated as a holiday – the Day of Solidarity of World Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijanis are proud of this day and celebrate it with pride.

This day is celebrated as a holiday by Azerbaijanis living in all countries of the world. December 31 is one of the most important and significant holidays for the Azerbaijani diaspora. World Azerbaijanis Solidarity Day is also celebrated as a holiday by representatives of the diaspora of Azerbaijani origin, even those who are not Azerbaijani by nationality, but were born and raised in Azerbaijan.

On September 27, 2020, in response to the military aggression committed by Armenia against our country, the Azerbaijani people went to the Patriotic War at the call of the Supreme Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev. The victorious Azerbaijani Army inflicted a heavy defeat on the enemy in 44 days, every moment of which was filled with heroism, and restored the territorial integrity of our country. The glorious Victory, which will live forever in our history of national statehood and in the memory of our people, was achieved thanks to the unity of the people and the power, the high professionalism of our army, and intense political and diplomatic activity.

The anti-terrorist operation conducted in September 2023 lasted only one day, or even less. The Azerbaijani Army, showing professionalism and heroism, reached all strategic locations, and in a short time decided the fate of that operation and the enemy army was forced to surrender. Then, on October 15, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev raised the National Flag of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said in his speech at the military parade held in the city of Khankendi on the occasion of November 8 – Victory Day:

“Thus, we have restored historical justice. September 20, 2023 will remain in our history, just like November 8. On November 8, after the Shusha operation, the enemy army was broken, and a day later it signed the act of capitulation. On April 23 of this year, we took control of the Azerbaijani-Armenian border in the Lachin direction, fully restoring our territorial integrity, and on September 20, we fully restored state sovereignty. With this, the book of separatists is closed. There will no longer be a place for separatism in Azerbaijan. The Azerbaijani state controls the entire territory today, and the reasons for this are our brave men and tens of thousands of Azerbaijani servicemen standing on this square today. We achieved this Victory at the cost of their blood and lives.”

The solidarity of Azerbaijanis around the world during the September anti-terrorist operation, as well as their close unity around the President of Azerbaijan, is an indicator of the existence of unbreakable bonds between our people and our nation. It is these unbreakable bonds that demonstrated the power of Azerbaijanis in the face of all world powers. Thanks to this unity and the strength gained together, Azerbaijanis today walk headlong in all corners of the world.

The courageous protests of our compatriots living abroad against the insidious provocations of the enemy and anti-Azerbaijani circles, their selfless services in conveying the truths of Azerbaijan to the world community, have been a worthy contribution to our Victory.
