Ousted Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra returned home Tuesday to serve jail time after spending nearly two decades in self-imposed exile.
Thaksin’s private jet landed at Bangkok’s Don Mueang Airport amid tight security for a smooth arrival process and a transfer to the Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Holders of Political Positions.
The return coincided with the Pheu Thai Party, known as Thaksin’s political vehicle, seeking to form a new government in a parliamentary vote later Tuesday.
