Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya said he is set to hold talks with his Mongolian counterpart Batmunkh Battsetseg in Tokyo this week, as part of efforts to strengthen ties with the landlocked nation between China and Russia.
Describing Mongolia as a “special strategic partner for peace and prosperity,” Iwaya told a press conference that he hopes to further boost cooperation through his talks with Battsetseg slated for Tuesday.
Battsetseg is making a six-day visit to Japan through Wednesday.
Japan regards Mongolia, which is heavily dependent on China and Russia in terms of trade and energy, as strategically important in security and economic terms.
