An Azerbaijani delegation led by Majnun Mammadov, Minister of Agriculture participated in the 4th Meeting of the Minister of Agriculture of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.
The meeting, themed “Organic Agriculture Management in the Organization of Turkic States: The Basis of Food Security and Health of the Nation”, was co-chaired by Bakyt Torobaev, Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, and Kubanychbek Omuraliev, Secretary General of the OTS. The ministers and deputy ministers of agriculture from member states and invited observer countries attended the meeting.
In his opening remarks, Bakyt Torobaev emphasized the great potential for increasing trade turnover in the agricultural sector among OTS member states.
Addressing the event, Majnun Mammadov stressed that global climate change poses serious risks to agri-food systems and food security, and highlighted the significance of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP29) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, held last November in Baku.
He described effective agricultural diplomacy as a crucial instrument for addressing the numerous challenges and threats confronting the global agri-food system.
The Azerbaijani Agriculture Minister urged the OTS countries to work together, reinforcing their commercial ties and strive to position themselves as leaders in the trade of key agricultural products.
The meeting also emphasized the need for cooperation in the digital transformation of agriculture, technology transfer, and sharing of advanced practices to boost productivity and achieve sustainable development in the face of modern challenges.
According to predetermined criteria, the city of Cholpon-Ata in Kyrgyzstan was declared the Agro Capital of the Turkic World for the period from September 2025. The ministers of agriculture of the OTS agreed to hold their next meeting in Türkiye in 2026 and decided that a special Action Plan of the Agricultural Working Group for 2026 will be prepared.
The participants adopted the joint communique of the 4th Meeting of the Ministers of Agriculture of the Organization of Turkic States.
