The establishment of the first democratic republic in the East is a bright example of the rich statehood history of the Azerbaijani nation.
The 106th anniversary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which we celebrat this year, is surrounded by inexhaustible joy in a situation where the lands were completely freed from Armenian occupation and sovereignty was fully restored as a result of the great victory we won in 44-day Patriotic War.
That is why, now May 28 – Independence Day is celebrated with special splendor all over the world.
Although this glorious republic existed only 23 months in the history of Azerbaijan, its political, legal, historical and moral significance will be proudly celebrated as long as our country exists.
Despite the extremely turbulent, complicated and contradictory period, a group of Azerbaijani intellectuals were able to selflessly establish the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
The National Leader of the Azerbaijani nation, Heydar Aliyev, praised the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic as one of the glorious pages of our historical past and rendered great services in protecting its heritage.
The greatest service of the founders of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, which was announced in May 1918, is that they chose the republican structure as the form of government of the country.
The Azerbaijan Democratic Republic, in addition to being the first democratic state in the history of the Middle East, also played the role of an important foundation for the republics formed later in Azerbaijan.
Great people of our nation such as Mammad Amin Rasulzadeh, Fatali Khan Khoyski, Nariman Narimanov, National leader Heydar Aliyev, and the current head of state of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev played an important role in the formation and development of those republics.
Thanks to the correct selection of the foundations of modern statehood at that time, today Azerbaijan has been formed as a democratic, secular and legal state, and has gained a great reputation all over the world.
In 2007, President Ilham Aliyev inaugurated the Declaration of Independence monument erected in honor of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic on Istiglaliyet Street in Baku.
Also, President Ilham Aliyev highly appreciated the heritage of the Democratic Republic, and by the decree of the head of state, 2018 was announced the “Year of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic” in the country.
The nation of Azerbaijan, under the leadership of the victorious Commander-in-Chief, President Ilham Aliyev, liberated the occupied lands and signed a Great Victory. With this historic victory, the 100-year occupation of our territories and separatism was completely and definitively ended.
Under the leadership of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the most powerful state of Azerbaijan in history fully ensured its territorial integrity and sovereignty with the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020 and local anti-terrorist measures implemented on September 19-20, 2023.
Sovereignty has been restored in the villages belonging to Azerbaijan located on the border with Armenia.
Today, everyone acknowledges not only Azerbaijan’s status as a regional leader, but also its great influence in Europe.
Today, Azerbaijan has a strategic partnership with about 10 European countries.
President Ilham Aliyev, who introduced the nation of Azerbaijan as a victorious nation to the world, increases the strength and prestige of our state every year.
Today, the glorious flag of Azerbaijan flies proudly on all borders, in Khankendi and Shusha.
Azerbaijan has confidently advanced from the regional level to the global level and has become an internationally recognized and influential state.
Azerbaijan, which is the guarantor of our irrevocable, unshakable and eternal independence and the founder of our modern state, Heydar Aliyev, wanted to see, was turned into a country with territorial integrity and sovereignty fully guaranteed by Commander-in-Chief President Ilham Aliyev.
In fact, the nation of Azerbaijan and the Republic are an inseparable value and will remain so as long as Azerbaijan exists.
