Passenger transportation along the railway line in a southern direction has not been discussed, Chairman of Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) CJSC Rovshan Rustamov told reporters, AJMEDIA reports.
“Opening the southern railway line for passenger traffic is not on the agenda. Since the southbound railway allows speeds of 20 km/h, this is not considered acceptable for passenger transport,” the official said.
“The southern railway line is technically suitable only for freight transport. This road can be restored for passenger traffic only after major reconstructions,” he added.
To note, Azerbaijan’s total passenger transportation increased by 30.1 percent in January 2024, reaching 622,600 people.
