Azerbaijan was represented at the 31st International Display Workshops (IDW-2024), held in Sapporo, the capital city of Hokkaido Prefecture, Japan, by Dr. K. Käläntär, a prominent scientist in the field of electronics and a long-term resident of Tokyo.
Speaking to AJMEDIA, Dr. Käläntär shared details about the event. He stated that IDW-2024 was organized from December 4 to 6, 2024, in Sapporo, Hokkaido. Approximately 1,100 participants attended this seminar, which was first established 31 years ago in Hamamatsu, a city renowned for its industrial development. Dr. Käläntär noted that he has been attending these seminars continuously for the past 24 years, contributing papers annually to this international event. This year, for the first time, a joint paper authored by him and Elgün Taghiyev, a researcher and faculty member from Nakhchivan State University, was presented. Additionally, Dr.Käläntär served as a session chair at this year’s seminar.
Dr. Käläntär, who has resided in Japan for 44 years, received the prestigious Kobayashi-Uchiike-Mikoshiba (KUM) Award in 2023 for his significant contributions to academia and industry. Together with Professor Kobayashi, he has mentored participants for over 20 years at Society for Information Display (SID) conferences, an organization based in the United States. For the first time in Japan, both scientists collaborated to provide guidance to both international and local presenters.
The Flat Panel Components (FMC) workshop is a segment of IDW seminars. Dr. K. Käläntär served as Chair of the FMC Workshop Committee for three years. In 2006, he co-founded the Display Electronics Workshop (DES) with two colleagues, where he remains an active participant. Dr. Käläntär is also a member of DES and continues to make significant contributions across various fields within IDW.
IDW is a globally significant gathering for researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts in display technology. The workshops aim to foster collaboration within the display industry, exchange achievements, and promote innovation. Since its establishment in 1994, IDW has become an influential platform for the global display community.
