Azerbaijani schoolchildren achieved an outstanding milestone at the 29th Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO 2025) held in Struga, North Macedonia, securing a total of five medals: one gold, two silver, and two bronze.
Farhad Isgandar, a member of the Azerbaijani team, earned the prestigious “First of First” award, achieving a perfect score of 40 points.
The Junior Balkan Mathematical Olympiad (JBMO) is a renowned mathematics competition for students aged 15.5 years or younger, organized by the Mathematical Society of South Eastern Europe (MASSEE). The event brings together participants from member countries, including Albania, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Cyprus, Greece, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, and Türkiye.
In addition to these member countries, the JBMO has historically welcomed guest participants from nations such as Azerbaijan, Croatia, France, Georgia, Indonesia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. This broad participation underscores the JBMO’s status as one of the most prestigious mathematics competitions for young students.
