Baku hosts 11th meeting of TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations

The 11th meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations under the theme “The role of parliaments in scientific and technological developments and legislative support in TURKPA member states” has been held in Baku.

In his opening remarks, Chairman of the TURKPA Commission on Environment, Natural Resources and Health Protection Ahliman Amiraslanov said that TURKPA had undertaken important work to strengthen relations and cooperation between the Turkic-speaking countries, as well as harmonize their legislations since its inception. He emphasized the relevance of the meeting’s topic and the importance of the issues raised on the agenda.

Osman Mesten, Chairperson of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations, Abzal Kuspan (Kazakhstan), Vice-Chairman of the Commission, members of the Commission Javanshir Feyziyev and Malahat Ibrahimgizi (Azerbaijan), Bibigul Jeksenbay (Kazakhstan), Nurjigit Kadyrbekov (Kyrgyzstan), Filiz Kılıç (Türkiye) and Secretary General of TURKPA Mehmet Sureyya Er made welcoming remarks.

The speakers shared their views on development of relations among the TURKPA member states in various areas, strengthening cooperation in areas such as digital technologies and information security, application of artificial intelligence, as well as the role of parliaments in scientific and technological development.

Then the participants heard the draft report on the main topic of the meeting presented by Abzal Kuspan, Vice-Chairman of the Commission.

The TURKPA Commission members approved the report and the recommendation decision for consideration at the next plenary meeting of TURKPA.

The participants also reviewed the draft model law “On personal data protection” and other issues, making relevant decisions.

During the discussions, MPs Malahat Ibrahimgizi and Javanshir Feyziyev made proposals on the agenda issues, expressing their views on the future activities of the commission.

The participants agreed to convene the 12th meeting of the TURKPA Commission on Legal Affairs and International Relations under the theme “Ombudsman Institutions in TURKPA member states” next year in Kazakhstan.
