Baku hosts “Enhancing Ambition, Enabling Action: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum”

The “Enhancing Ambition, Enabling Action: COP29 Sustainable Business Forum” held in Baku on Friday.

Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Mukhtar Babayev, Chairman of the Central Bank Taleh Kazimov, Deputy Minister of Economy Sahib Mammadov, MP Nigar Arpadarai, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in Azerbaijan Alessandra Roccasalvo, as well as businessmen, heads of business entities attended the event.

Addressing the forum, Minister Mukhtar Babayev said that climate change is causing major issues in various countries, which are negatively affecting their economies.

“Having examined the global scale of the problem, Azerbaijan has developed a strategy, which also includes the hosting of COP29 in Baku. Azerbaijan enjoys a great potential for using green and alternative energy sources. The country will play its role in providing Europe with green energy in the near future,” he added.

Other speakers at the event included Chairman of the Central Bank Taleh Kazimov, MP Nigar Arpadarai, United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva and UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in Azerbaijan Alessandra Roccasalvo. In their remarks, they highlighted the financing of climate change related measures, active involvement of private sector in the green energy transition projects, Azerbaijan’s green energy potential, as well as the country’s role in ensuring Europe’s energy security.

The speeches were followed by four panel sessions covering issues such as the negative impacts of climate change to economy, measures to prevent emissions of carbon and other toxic gases into the atmosphere, reducing carbon footprint in the production process using new technologies, and etc.
