“The closure of Russian-language sectors in Azerbaijan is not under consideration,” said Azerbaijan’s Minister of Science and Education, Emin Amrullayev, as he addressed the event “Certification 2025: Professional Teacher – Quality Education” held at ADA University.
The Minister underlined that the goal is to ensure that school pupils have a high level of proficiency in the Azerbaijani language, alongside foreign languages. He added that there are certain shortcomings in the training of Russian language teachers.
“The results of the teacher recruitment exams in the Russian-language sector show that the maximum score is between 50 and 60, while in the Azerbaijani-language sector it is over 80,” he said. “Therefore, we are compelled to consider candidates with lower scores during the hiring process.”
