AZERBAIJAN GREAT LEADER HEYDAR ALIYEV: “LITERATURE IS OUR COMMON WEALTH”
Heydar Aliyev, the national leader of Azerbaijan Republic, the founder of the independent state of Azerbaijan, the world-famous politician, the great leader, made great contributions to the development of our literature and its rise to greater heights. The great leader favored great value to our fiction, our classical heritage in general, and our rich art of words. As a result of the high attention and care of our national leader, prominent representatives of our literature were awarded honorary titles and their activities were highly appreciated. The great leader Heydar Aliyev held regular meetings with cultural and literary figures and always provided them with comprehensive support. Thanks to the great attention of the national leader, writers such as Süleyman Rahimov, Mirza Ibrahimov, Rasul Rza, Süleyman Rustam, who are prominent representatives of the 20th century Azerbaijani literature, were awarded the title of Hero of Socialist Labor, the highest title during the former Soviet Union. Special thanks to the great efforts of our national leader that our literature and culture, which has an ancient history, have been ranked among the most advanced in the world. In general, the great leader Heydar Aliyev had great services for the development of all-Turkic literature. It is known that literary cooperation is an important aspect of the integration of Turkish states. Our national leader showed great respect and respect to prominent representatives of all-Turkish literature at all times, and emphasized the importance of engaging in deep research and analyzing a great period of the oral folk literature of the Turkish peoples, which is connected to deep historical roots, up to the present day, and analyzed in scientific literature. As a result of this, the foundation of a deep bridge between the literatures of the Turkic peoples has been laid, and comparative analyzes have been conducted. The participation of the great leader Heydar Aliyev in the anniversaries of the cultural monuments of the Turkish peoples and prominent writers indicates the importance of the common cultural wealth of the Turkish peoples. It is no coincidence that national leader, world-famous politician Heydar Aliyev has expressed valuable opinions about the writers of the Turkic world. His speeches about the genius Turkmen poet Mahtimgulu, prominent representative of Kazakh literature Abay Kunanbayev, Kyrgyz epic “Manas” at the jubilee ceremony indicate the great value the great leader gave to the outstanding personalities and cultural monuments of the Turkic world. The celebration of the 1300th anniversary of the ancient Turkish epic “Kitabi-Dade Gorgud” in 2000 all over the world demonstrated that the events unfolding in the epic are related to Azerbaijan. The great leader managed to create a great Turkish unity by bringing together the Turks of the world, who were scattered thanks to the Soviet regime, around this epic. The national leader knew that in order to ensure the unity of the Turks of the world, it is necessary to unite them around a common idea. As a result of the visionary policy of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, this idea was realized. The state events held at the UNESCO level were the triumph of this great step. On this occasion, national leader Heydar Aliyev said: “The main goal of holding such jubilee events together is to return the rich spiritual heritage created by our peoples over the centuries to the current generations, to realize once again that we have the same roots and the same history. On the other hand, by holding such jubilee events, we demonstrate that the works of Ibn Sina, Nizami, Navai, Yunus Imre, Fuzuli, Mahdimgulu, Mahmud Kashgari, Abay and many other geniuses, as “Kitabi-Dada Gorgud”, “Manas” “Alpamish” our immortal epics are the spiritual wealth of all mankind. Heydar Aliyev considered Azerbaijani literature as a school of life, wisdom and struggle, and considered it necessary to pay special attention to the reflection of the people’s life in all its depth and breadth in our literary and artistic works. The outstanding statesman Heydar Aliyev is the supporter of classics of Azerbaijani literature: Nizami Ganjavi, Imadedin Nasimi, Muhammad Fuzuli, Molla Panah Vagif, Mirza Fatali Akhundzade, Jalil Mammadguluzade, Huseyn Javid, Uzeyir Hajibeyov, Samad Vurgun, Rasul Rza, Mirza Ibrahimov, Nariman Narimanov, Suleyman Rahimov. He appreciated the efforts of Süleyman Rustam, Bakhtiyar Vahabzadeh, Mammad Araz, Khalil Rza Ulutürk and others, and took great measures at the state level to promote them in our country and the world.
The great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi has a special place in the literary policy of national leader Heydar Aliyev. The establishment of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center at Oxford University of Great Britain, the activities of the Nizami Ganjavi Institute of Literature, the Nizami Ganjavi Scientific Center within the Ganja Department of ANAS and the organization of its activities serve the research of the Nizami Ganjavi researches in connection with the statehood interests of our country, as well as the ideas of Azerbaijanism. The Decree dated January 5, 2021 of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the worthy follower of Heydar Aliyev’s policy, declaring 2021 the “Year of Nizami Ganjavi” is an important step in terms of studying Nizami Ganjavi in our country and the world, researching his works, and communicating them to the international world. The great leader Heydar Aliyev said about Nizami Ganjavi: “We are in a hurry to bring Nizami and humanity together. Nizami is such an artist that it is worth celebrating every year.”
Everyone still remembers the historic speech of the great leader Heydar Aliyev on May 24, 2000 in front of Nizami Ganjavi’s mausoleum. During the visit to the mausoleum, national leader Heydar Aliyev said: “All Azerbaijani people are proud of Nizami Ganjavi. But the people of Janjavi feel a special sense of pride. Firstly, because Nizami is from Janjali. He made the name of Ganja famous in the world, he lived on this land, he wrote on this land. the works he wrote are famous all over the world. Imagine creating such great works 850 years ago!.. These works are not only poetry, each of them contains great science, great philosophy, and genius ideas. That’s why his works live on, he himself lives.” These wise words of the great leader arouse a sense of pride in everyone’s heart. Great Nizami Ganjavi was recognized as a genius of the art of words, a propagator of humanistic ideas, and was included in the gallery of world literature by the national leader Heydar Aliyev. Under the leadership of national leader Heydar Aliyev, on September 22, 1975 and January 4, 1978, “Protection of the Nizami Mausoleum”, on January 1, 1979, on measures to improve the study, publication and promotion of the literary heritage of Nizami Ganjavi, and on July 28, 1981 The decisions and instructions given on the occasion of the 840th anniversary of the great thinker led to great measures and large-scale researches about the great poet.
Filming of “Nizami” movie, erection of “Khamsa” complex monuments, repair and preservation of Nizami’s mausoleum, publication of “Khamsa” in a new translation and elegant layout, erection of Nizami statues in many cities of the world, naming of one of the stations of Baku Metro “Nizami” and other events are a clear example of great leader Heydar Aliyev’s attention and concern for the genius poet of Azerbaijan.
The celebration of the 500th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani classic Muhammad Fuzuli in 1994 by the instructions of the great leader was a clear example of respect and reverence for our national literature, and the organization of all these events at the international level was a bright reflection of the great policy of the national leader. It should be noted that representatives of more than 80 nations participated in the world-wide grand jubilee of Muhammad Fuzuli held on November 2, 1994. On this occasion, great leader Heydar Aliyev said in his speech at the Grand National Assembly of Turkey: “Fuzuli was a person who united Turks in the past as well.” But now, when the Turkic world was divided in the 20th century, and almost the majority of the countries belonging to the Turkic world (except one Turkey) were living in regimes that were not compatible with their life, history, and traditions, Fuzuli kept us alive and led us to these days.”
One of the most important steps taken by the great leader was to introduce Azerbaijani literature, prominent representatives of this ancient literature to the world community, and to ensure the integration of the principles of humanism, national and humanistic ideas manifested in their creativity into world scientific literary studies. Huseyn Javid was one of the geniuses cont to Azerbaijan by the great leader Heydar Aliyev. Bringing the prominent writer Huseyn Javid, who was exiled to Siberia during the repression period, to his birthplace – Nakhchivan, is a clear example of the great love of the national leader Heydar Aliyev for Azerbaijani literature and the great Javid. This genius, who felt the concept of national prejudice to the core with his whole existence, brought Huseyin Javid, the founder of the poetic tragedy genre in our literature, the nobleman of words and ideas of Azerbaijani literature, to his native land from abroad and built a mausoleum over his grave. This step proves an expression of great respect of the great leader to our prominent literary figures. National leader Heydar Aliyev said about Huseyn Javid’s creativity: “Huseyn Javid is one of the great personalities who propogated the Azerbaijan people, its culture, literature, and science to the heights. The works created by Huseyn Javid are the national wealth of the Azerbaijani people. They are a textbook for today and for future generations. Huseyn Javid’s entire creativity and activity consisted of elevating the culture of the Azerbaijani people and making our people a free and independent nation.”
The policy of the great leader Heydar Aliyev regarding the promotion of our national literature is being continued at the highest level by the worthy follower of this political course, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev. As a continuation of this policy, in 2019, on the occasion of the 650th anniversary of Imadaddin Nasimi, the outstanding Azerbaijani poet, the outstanding creator of our medieval poetry, the outstanding Azerbaijani poet Imadaddin Nasimi, the “Year of Nasimi” was declared in our country and included in the list of the anniversaries of outstanding personalities and significant events of UNESCO. included. The introduction of Nasimi, the systematic research and promotion of his creativity in our country is connected with the name of the national leader Heydar Aliyev.
The great leader Heydar Aliyev deeply influenced to investigating Molla Panah Vagif’s creativity, too. On January 14, 1982, the national leader participated in the opening of Molla Panah Vagif’s mausoleum, in Karabagh and spoke about the poetic beauty of Vagif’s creativity and the prominenet place of the author in Azerbaijani literature. Also, within Molla Panah Vagif’s poetry days the great leader attended the opening ceremony Khurshidbanu Natavan’s and Mir Mohsun Nawwab’s monuments of as part of together with well-known Azerbaijani poets and writers.

In this regard, national leader’s speech in ceremonies about People’s writers Ilyas Efendiyev, Ismayil Shikhli, Anar, Huseyn Abbaszade, Yusif Samadoglu, Magsud Ibrahimbeyov, Huseyn Ibrahimov, people’s poets Mammad Araz, Nabi Khazri, Bakhtiyar Vahabzade, Mirvarid Dilbazi, Muhammadhuseyn Shahriyar, Gabil, Khalil Rza Ulutürk, Zalimkhan Yagub are still in memories today.
