Foreign Minister Yoshimasa Hayashi met Tuesday with new South Korean Ambassador to Japan Yun Duk Min for the first time since the envoy took up the post last month following the inauguration of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol in May.
Their meeting in Tokyo contrasts with Hayashi’s cold relationship with Yun’s predecessor Kang Chang Il, who finally met with the Japanese minister in mid-June just before leaving the post he assumed in January last year amid frayed bilateral ties over wartime and territorial issues.
