M5.0 quake hits central Japan, no tsunami warning issued

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.0 struck Ishikawa Prefecture, central Japan, on Monday, a day after a strong quake jolted the region, the weather agency said.

No tsunami warning was issued following the quake that occurred at 10:31 a.m., which registered upper 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the Noto region with its focus at a depth of around 10 kilometers, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.

No abnormalities were reported at Hokuriku Electric Power Co.’s Shika nuclear power plant in the prefecture.

Bullet train services in the area were unaffected, JR East said.
