Majority of Azerbaijan’s alerts to foreign countries concern potatoes and oranges

The number of plant health notices sent by Azerbaijan to foreign countries in 2023 has been disclosed.

Last year, the Azerbaijan Food Safety Agency (AFSA) sent a total of 373 notices to Iran, Belarus, Russia, Türkiye, Ukraine, Pakistan, Georgia, the Netherlands, Croatia, Spain, and Luxembourg regarding various detected inconsistencies. Approximately half of these alerts, specifically 183, originated from Iran. Belarus followed with 85 notices, and Russia with 43.

The identification of the citrus tristeza virus in oranges accounted for around half (78) of the notifications concerning Iran. Notifications regarding Belarus and Russia were primarily associated with the consumable potatoes.

Notifications dispatched to exporting countries were generally related to oranges, ware potatoes, kiwi, and tangerines.
