North Korea fires cruise missiles to Sea of Japan, 5th launch this year

Tokyo, 14 February, /AJMEDIA/

North Korea fired several cruise missiles toward the Sea of Japan on Wednesday, the South Korean military said, marking its fifth cruise missile launch this year, according to Kyodo News.

The missiles were fired at around 9 a.m. into waters northeast of the eastern port city of Wonsan, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said.

North Korea has conducted a series of cruise missile tests since late January. After the last one earlier this month, North Korea’s state media reported it had conducted a test of a cruise missile with a “super-large warhead” as well as a test of a new anti-aircraft missile in the Yellow Sea.

During the past rounds, Pyongyang tested its new Pulhwasal-3-31 strategic cruise missile as well as a Hwasal-2 cruise missile, which are both believed to be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
