Tokyo, 11 January, /AJMEDIA/
Our compatriot, renowned scholar and researcher Dr. K. Käläntär, living in Tokyo, has been honored with the influential KUM Prize from IDW (International Display Workshops).
For years, our compatriot residing in Japan provided information about himself to the AJMEDIA News portal. Dr. K. Käläntär, who shared information about the International Display Workshops, stated that these workshops are significant gatherings for researchers, professionals, and enthusiasts in the field of display technology. Established in 1993, IDW has evolved into an effective platform for the global display community in recent years.
Dr. K. Käläntär recalled that the first IDW event took place in the city of Hamamatsu, Japan. Over the years, these conferences have been held in various cities such as Kyoto, Nagoya, Fukuoka, Sapporo, and Niigata. The selection of these cities with rapid development reflects the dynamic nature of the display industry in a continuous state of progress.
Adding further, the scholar emphasized that these seminars typically last for several days and offer a comprehensive program, including keynote speeches, technical sessions, and panel discussions. The agenda of these seminars covers a wide range of display technologies, including liquid crystal displays (LCD), organic light-emitting diodes (OLED), flexible displays, augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and emerging screen technologies.
Dr. K. Käläntär highlighted that IDW, which continuously expands, attracts representatives from diverse audiences, including researchers, engineers, industry experts, and students. Participants from all over the world gather annually to share the latest research results, technological advancements, and ideas about the future of display technology. The sessions provide a unique networking opportunity for participants to connect with experts, discuss collaborative projects, and stay informed about the latest innovations in the field.
Dr. K. Käläntär pointed out that one of the most interesting aspects of IDW is the KUM Prize, named after the three pioneers of the display industry: Kobayashi, Uchiike, and Mikoshiba. The KUM Prize is awarded to researchers and scholars who contribute significantly to the industry, advancing the borders of display science and technology. The KUM Prize ceremony, part of the sessions, serves as evidence of dedication and innovation driving the advancement of display technology. Moreover, since its inception in 1993, this ceremony has become a foundational event promoting collaboration and innovations for the global display community.
It is noteworthy that Dr. K. Käläntär, originally Azerbaijani, was among the distinguished international researchers who received this international award in 2023. At the award ceremony held in Niigata city, three scholars were honored with the KUM Prize. Importantly, Dr. K. Käläntär is the first non-native (Azerbaijanian-Japanese) to receive this prestigious award.
Additionally, Dr. K. Käläntär is a recognized figure in the field of optical technology. Holding two PhDs from TUT and Tohoku University, his research encompasses 2D/3D optical coherent image transmission, optoelectronic sensors, and optics for BLU and LCD. He has achieved significant success in the development of microstructures for functional LGP in LCDs. As the author of several books, numerous articles, and patents in this field, he has received Special Recognition Award, fellow status from SID, and awards from the Japan Liquid Crystal Society and IEC1906. Furthermore, Dr. K. Käläntär has played a vital role in the activities of the Society for Information Display (SID) and IDW committees, contributing to the improvement of display technology.
