The round table entitled “Turkic States as a bridge between East and West” has been held at the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation. As part of the event, a meeting was organized with the guests participating in the international scientific conference on “Azerbaijani Oriental Studies in the context of East-West scientific-cultural and socio-political dialogue”, organized in cooperation by the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation and Baku State University, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Oriental Studies faculty.
The round table started with the presentation of a video showing the priority directions of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation.
President of the International Turkic Culture and Heritage Foundation Gunay Afandiyeva informed the participants about the activities of the organization and the various projects implemented in the direction of studying, protecting and promoting the ancient cultural heritage of the Turkic World. Gunay Afandiyeva emphasized that Baku State University is one of the great centers of knowledge serving the cultural and spiritual development of Azerbaijan and spoke about the importance of cooperation with the university. The president of the Foundation emphasized that the gathering of scientific and cultural figures from the Turkic states at the round table contributed to the strengthening of spiritual ties between the Turkic peoples and bringing them closer together. Gunay Afandiyeva talked about the settlement of the Turkic peoples, which is an important part of world history, in the geography where Eastern and Western civilizations meet, and drew attention to the importance of the role they played in mutual scientific and cultural exchanges between Europe and Asia.
Rector of Baku State University Elchin Babayev, speaking at the round table, emphasized that the Turkic states, which serve as a bridge between Eastern and Western cultures, are a long path both physically and spiritually. The rector noted that the strengthening of the relations of the Turkic states in all fields in modern time has given impetus to the development of the ideology of Turkic unity. Elchin Babayev highly appreciated the work carried out by the Foundation in the direction of the integration of the Turkic World and expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation with the organization.
Member of Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan Jala Aliyeva, called the meeting of scientists from friendly and brotherly nations of the same lineage, sharing common national and cultural values a great day, and said that she considers the projects implemented by the Foundation to promote the historical and cultural heritage of the Turkic World on an international scale to be commendable.
Member of the Milli Majlis, academician Nizami Jafarov stated that the geography of the Turkic peoples determines their active participation in economic, political and cultural relations between Europe and Asia. Nizami Jafarov described the work of the round table as a contribution to the preservation of the values of the Turkic people for thousands of years and their transmission to future generations.
Member of the Milli Majlis Vugar Isgandarov spoke about the relevance of expanding the comprehensive relations of the Turkic states in the entire Turkic world during the modern era. Vugar Isgandarov emphasized the great importance of the Foundation’s activities in the direction of cultural integration of the Turkic people and wished success to the organization.
At the round table, Nurila Shahmerdanova, professor of the Faculty of Turkology of the Eurasian National University named after L. Gumilyov of Kazakhstan, Baybolot Abitov, professor of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of Osh State University of Kyrgyzstan, Mustafa Faner, vice-rector for scientific affairs of Ankara University, professor Sharustam Shamusarov, head of the Arabic Philology Department of Tashkent State University of Oriental Studies of Uzbekistan, Andras Czentnar, Faculty of Oriental Studies lecturer of the Eotvos Lorand University (ELTE) of Hungary, Professor Pyotr Taraka, Dean of the Faculty of Oriental Studies of the University of Warsaw, spoke and exchanged views on the role of the Turkic states in the Eurasian space, gave information about their activities in their fields, and praised the work done by the Foundation in the direction of promoting the all-Turkic culture.
At the end of the round table, the participants were presented with gifts from the Foundation and commemorative photos were taken.
The round table was followed by a musical evening of artists from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan & Türkiye performing national folk songs of Turkic people.
The event was attended by deputies of the Milli Majlis, ambassadors, representatives of international organizations, Turkology scholars from the member and observer countries of the Foundation, well-known scientific, cultural and public figures, representatives of the intelligentsia.
