Azerbaijan registered the decisions of the International Court of Justice dated November 12, 2024 regarding the preliminary objections raised by Azerbaijan and Armenia in the case related to the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
AJMEDIA reports that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released information about this.
It was reported that the International Court of Justice made a decision on the ongoing international legal claims of Azerbaijan against Armenia in connection with massive human rights violations committed against Azerbaijanis. Azerbaijan has been working to hold Armenia responsible for carrying out systematic ethnic cleansing against more than one million Azerbaijanis for decades. Thus, these efforts were not in vain: the ethnic cleansing and other illegal acts carried out by Armenia during its occupation of the internationally recognized territory of Azerbaijan for decades will be investigated in detail by the Court. In addition, the Court rightly rejected attempts to exclude from the judgment allegations of Armenia’s practice of laying mines and hidden mine traps. Ensuring justice for the victims, whose number has so far increased tragically as a result of Armenia’s mine threat, is extremely important. Finally, on November 10, another Azerbaijani citizen was injured as a result of a mine explosion. Targeting residential areas with mines not only endangers the lives of innocent civilians, but also threatens the peace agreement that Azerbaijan is committed to achieving. Regarding Azerbaijan’s initial objections, it is important that the Court reserves the right to fully analyze the facts and evidence on the merits of Armenia’s false allegations of racial discrimination. Azerbaijan is confident that the examination of the evidence will show that no violation of international law has been committed. It should also be noted that the International Court of Justice is not the only legal platform where Azerbaijan filed a lawsuit against Armenia. Azerbaijan is also active in other international legal forums in the direction of meeting compensation and financial compensation for violations of international law in a number of other areas, including the destruction of the environment and energy infrastructure during the period of occupation. We will continue our efforts to hold Armenia accountable for its decades-long occupation of internationally recognized territories of Azerbaijan and numerous violations of international human rights during related conflicts.
