Young Azerbaijani chess players have brought home two golds, two silvers and a bronze medal from the European School Chess Championship 2023 held in Durres, Albania May 12-22.
The golds came from Agil Israilov and Yasin Azimov in the U17 and U9 events respectively. U13 players Saadat Bashirli and Mirsaleh Seyidli scooped silver medals, while U15 player Nurten Nuriyeva bagged a bronze medal of the championship.
Azerbaijan ranked 3rd in the overall medal table.
The event was played in 6 age categories: U7, U9, U11, U13, U15 and U17, open and girls sections separately.
The Swiss-system championship featured 9 rounds, with time control 1h 30 min + 30 sec increment for the whole the game.
The championship brought together 208 chess players from 25 countries.
