An event dedicated to Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces Day was organized by the Azerbaijani Embassy in France, honoring the memory of the sons of the Fatherland who sacrificed their lives for the freedom and independence of both Azerbaijan and France.

As part of the event, a photo exhibition was opened to commemorate Azerbaijanis who fought in the French Resistance Movement during World War II.

Azerbaijani Ambassador to France Leyla Abdullayeva, the embassy’s military attaché Colonel Javid Abdullayev, and French historian Alexandre Vatant, who has conducted extensive research on Azerbaijani fighters in the French Resistance, addressed the event and paid tribute to the fallen heroes.

Ambassador Leyla Abdullayeva and Colonel Javid Abdullayev highlighted the glorious history of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces and emphasized the exceptional role Azerbaijani partisans played in the liberation of France during World War II. They noted that thousands of Azerbaijanis fought alongside French partisans, but while some returned to their homeland, most found their final resting place in France.

The Ambassador also spoke about the embassy’s ongoing efforts to trace the combat journeys, identities, and graves of Azerbaijani soldiers buried in France.

Historian Alexandre Vatant provided insight into his book detailing the life and military path of Azerbaijani partisan Ahmadiyya Jabrayilov.

The exhibition featured official documents and information about ten Azerbaijanis who fought for France. Family members of three of them – Ahmadiyya Jabrayilov, Khalaf Hajiyev, and Idris Hashimov – attended the event and were presented with certificates and medals.
