A commemorative evening marking the 90th anniversary of the birth of the eminent Azerbaijani writer, playwright, and film director Magsud Ibrahimbeyov was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Russian Federation.
The event, co-organized by the State Committee on Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani Embassy in Moscow, featured a monothematic performance of “The Pistachio Tree,” staged based on Ibrahimbeyov’s story of the same name.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev, noted that commemorative events are underway in accordance with a decree by President Ilham Aliyev to honor Magsud Ibrahimbeyov’s 90th anniversary. The diplomat emphasized that Ibrahimbeyov’s works are rightfully part of the “golden treasury” of Azerbaijani literature and have profoundly influenced its development. His works in Russian reflect the national traditions of Azerbaijani society, with the vivid portrayal of ordinary people, their behaviors, and psychological depth keeping his legacy relevant today.
According to Mustafayev, Magsud Ibrahimbeyov’s contributions served as a cultural bridge between Azerbaijan and Russia. The Magsud Ibrahimbeyov Creativity Center, established in Baku’s Icherisheher, continues to preserve his spiritual and cultural legacy.
Rufat Mahmud, Chairman of the Board of the Icherisheher State Historical-Architectural Reserve, stated that the Creativity Center was established by a decree from President Ilham Aliyev. The building housing the center underwent extensive restoration with the support and initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. Azerbaijan’s First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva attended the center’s opening ceremony. Mahmud highlighted that the center serves as a vital cultural space where literary spirit thrives, generations connect, and a new creative community is formed.
Anna Ibrahimbeyova, the writer’s widow, expressed gratitude to the event’s organizers and participants for their attention to Magsud Ibrahimbeyov’s legacy, emphasizing that his name and works continue to live on and inspire new generations.
The event included video presentations highlighting Magsud Ibrahimbeyov’s life, work, and the opening of the creativity center named in his honor.
