Turkish airstrikes kill PKK terrorists as positions in Iraq targeted

Tokyo, 3 February, /AJMEDIA/

Turkey has launched a large-scale aerial attack on Kurdish militant groups in neighboring Iraq and Syria.

Turkey’s defense ministry on Wednesday said the air strikes hit about 80 targets in northeastern Syria and northern Iraq. They included ammunition depots and training camps.

Footage from Syria’s northeastern region shows heavily damaged buildings.

Turkey has long been fighting the Kurdistan Workers Party, or PKK in Iraq and Syrian Kurdish forces known as People’s Protection Units, or YPG.

Tensions have been rising after three Turkish soldiers were killed in a December attack.

Observers note the operation was launched at a time when the world’s attention is focused on Ukraine.
