Tokyo, 3 July, /AJMEDIA/

Pakistan has been re-elected to the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) for the 2025–2027 term.

According to Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the election took place during the 33rd Session of the IOC General Assembly, held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

The IOC of UNESCO fosters international cooperation in marine sciences to enhance the management of oceans, coasts, and marine resources. It also develops scientifically-based services for sustainable ocean economies and establishes effective early warning systems for tsunamis and other ocean-related hazards.

The Commission is responsible for coordinating the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development 2021–2030 (The Ocean Decade).

Pakistan’s re-election to the Executive Council is a testament to its positive contributions to ocean-related scientific initiatives within UNESCO. The Executive Council convenes annually to review progress on the Commission’s work plans and prepare for the General Assembly.
