Zarifa Aliyeva is a selfless person who works for the health of the people and the development of science

Honored Scientist of the Republic of Azerbaijan, doctor of medical sciences, full member of the Azerbaijan Academy of Sciences Zarifa Aziz gizi Aliyeva was born on April 28, 1923 in the village of Shahtakhti, Sharur district, and went down in history as a scientist who devoted her life to the health of her people and the development of health science. Not all people born into the world are destined to live a meaningful life, we would probably not be wrong. Among these people, there are those whose meaningful life path becomes a treasure that serves both the well-being of their people and their health. Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva, who gave light not only to the people she belonged to, but also to the whole humanity, and wrote her name in history with her kindness, was one of such outstanding personalities.

Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva, who went down in the history of world health care as an outstanding ophthalmologist, made unprecedented discoveries in medical science in the middle of the 20th century. In the 40s of the last century, trachoma, an infectious disease that damages the eyes and causes serious consequences for people, was widespread in Azerbaijan. The fight against the mentioned disease was of great importance not only in the field of ophthalmology, but also for the health care of Azerbaijan in general. Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva closely participated in the organization of preventive measures for the treatment of trachoma disease, went to the regions where this disease is widespread, read reports to ophthalmologists, and personally conveyed the achievements achieved in her practice. The outstanding scientist Zarifa Aliyeva started working as a researcher at the Azerbaijan Scientific Research Institute of Eye Diseases in 1949 and continued scientific research after entering postgraduate studies in 1950. In 1960, Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva defended her candidate’s thesis and received the scientific degree of candidate of sciences, and because the treatment method proposed by her was applied throughout the republic, our country was saved from trachoma disease. With this, Mrs. Zarifa made a great contribution to the science of Azerbaijan and the protection of the health of the people of Azerbaijan. In 1960-1967, Ms. Zarifa Aliyeva worked as a senior researcher at the Institute of Ophthalmology, and in 1963, the Higher Attestation Commission of the USSR awarded her the title of senior researcher in the specialty “Ophthalmology”. In 1967, Ms. Zarifa Aliyeva was invited to the position of associate professor at the Azerbaijan State Doctors’ Training Institute.

Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva died in Moscow on April 15, 1985, at the age of 62. At that time, he left the great statesman Heydar Aliyev, who protected Azerbaijan from all kinds of disasters and made our country known all over the world, his faithful wife and children. In 1994, the body of Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva was brought to Baku and buried in Fakhri Khiyaban.

The National Leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, said about Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva that “Ms. Zarifa, who embodies the moral values of an Azerbaijani lady, managed to become legendary in her lifetime as a woman, a wife, a mother, a doctor, a scientist, and a public figure. He rose to the peak of true humanity by integrating titles with higher feelings such as mercy, compassion, and humanism.

The bright path opened in science by Zarifa Aliyeva, who made the Azerbaijani ophthalmology science known all over the world, is developing year by year, and her monumental works, scientific achievements, and pedagogical competence are currently being investigated, studied, and become the subject of several research works. The innovative scientist who has his own signature in the field of ophthalmology, tirelessly conducted researches in various fields of ophthalmology, created fundamental works will never lose their value. Mrs. Zarifa Aliyeva will always live in our hearts and will never be forgotten by our people who appreciate her unparalleled services in the field of medicine.
