Despite the in-progress Hollywood strikes, Netflix UK has started to commission and begin production of new movies and shows all through 2023, according to the Economic Times.

One of these productions is the film Joy which is based on a true story of the first vitro fertilization baby in the world which starred James Norton, Bill Nighy, and Thomasin Mackenzie, as per a report on What’s on Netflix.

Ben Taylor, the director is helming Joy and is known for working on Sex Education on Netflix’s episodes. Jack Thorne, the winner of BAFTA has created the screenplay, developing the script besides Rachel Mason, his wife. The latest film was initially scooped by ScreenDaily in September 2023.

Finola Dwyer has produced Joy along with Amanda Posey for the Wildgaze production company in UK while Cameron McCracken is the executive producer for Pathe. Olivia Grant and Lucy Bevan have managed casting with Jamie Cairney serving as the cinematographer.

Plot: The pioneers of Joy are the gynecologist and obstetrician Patrick Steptoe, embryologist and nurse Jean Purdy, and physiologist Robert Edwards. The three of them pioneered reproductive medicine with Edwards being awarded a Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine in the year 2010. Purdy and Steptoe were not awarded within 2010, since both were dead and the Nobel prize is not awarded posthumously.
